Final Sword Fish Print

I believe the overall composition of my print was good; it had a good balance between positive and negative space, but the sloppy print of it was caused by frustration and the fact that I couldn’t get the ink to roll onto the linoleum. I think this added to the texture though because it looks like there’s a flow of water from ink getting on the negative space and also the texture that was already there actually blended well. Texture is important because it can make a simple two dimensional drawing three dimensional. It also makes it look detailed instead of just two different colors looking sloppy together and not defining shapes it separates them making them blend well. I used positive and negative space by mixing the two together like the small details on the animal like the eyes and the tail. I also used it to make the two different colors on the animal itself which was hard because to make the bottom of the animal the background color and make it not blend with the background was hard because of the steady and thin outline I had to make. I believe I had good craftsmanship until the printing itself because it kept smearing and not having enough ink, but the actual picture itself was pretty good and had good detail and there was actually objects in the background like smaller sword fish and sea weed and the lines of the currents. I think I achieved a foreground, middle ground and background because the animal has depth like how the tail is in front of the rest of the fish and is a bit thicker. I also have a middle ground with the seaweed and the other fish and then the background is the currents and the bubbles. I think print making was an ok experience I mean personally I didn’t like it because of the time consuming tracing of the animal to get it on the linoleum and cutting it out, but the actual picture itself and it was a cool concept. The advantage to doing print making is you can make as many prints as you want without re-drawing it, but the disadvantage is that if you mess up on the linoleum you can’t erase it or put it back so it involves a lot of improvising.

Print Drawing Swordfish

Texture is very important in these sketches because it makes the animal pop out and look three dimensional when your only using black and white and not shading. If you dont have any texture then it just looks normal and two dimensional.
It is important to have a few different references and backgrounds because you can take different aspects of each photo and each animal that can make it look more original instead of just copying a photo onto paper. This also helps if you decide you dont like the picture you have you have a few others to compare too
When I look at my sketches I can tell that this one is by far the most real looking. I really didnt like how the others turned out like my aligator is hard to do because it has insanely tedious amounts of detail and texture because of the scales and the curves in the aligator itself. I know this one is the best because out of all my pictures you can pretty much know what it is right away.

Chalk Mural

I think this was a fun project to do with other people and it also kind of helped hearing other peoples ideas instead of getting drawrers block while sketching it. It worked out good with all the ideas we had our sketch looked really good with all the ideas we had.
If you cant collaborate than this project would be impossible because when you have four or five people working on one small area of a wall you have to be able to work what your doing in with what the other people are doing or you will mess up majorly.
I think this project could have gone better if we would've had more time and also the fact of being short on people for 3 days it didn't go as planned. I really think it could of turned out a lot better but atleast it didnt turn out bad and also what we did on paper was hard to do on brick because you have to work with the groute in the middle of the bricks which just made it look worse especially the loopty loop lollipops.
I think it was cool to make a picture that you interact with and I've seen a few people around school get into positions infront of the murals and it just makes you feel good someone appreciates your art. I also think its a big challenge because your making a two dimensional surface interact with a three dimensional object or person. This was also hard because for them to interact with it the item has to be hidden by boddy parts like if you tried a glove it wouldn't work because it has to be infront of the hand or around it.
