Anamorphosis Drawing

I think this was one of the coolest drawing's we've done so far. The process we did to get it look 3D is we took a normal picture of our object, in my case a classic coca-cola glass, and put it in photoshop. From there we transformed it, scaled it and then put a grid on the paper after we printed it. From there we drew the exact same grid on a clean sheat in our sketch books and copied over each little section so we drew it pretty close to the right size. The reason we took it into photoshop was to stretch to top of the picture so at a certain angle, where the top was farther away in the image, it would look like its standing up. Some of the most important things in the anamorphosis drawing was to get the size right, add value and shadows, and to get the right perspective in the camera shot. If all these are done correctly you end up with a really good looking 3D object on paper.

Famous Landmark Stencil

The Famous Landmark Stencil was a pretty easy project. What we had to do to start was go into photoshop with a picture then change it to a postive/negative picture, which makes it black and white(Threshold). When we were making the collage for the stencil to go on; I used a mix of light, dark, colorful and some things that represented the Olympic's because they 2012 Olympic games were held in London, England, which is also where my picture was taken. What I did with my stencil was i but out all the black space, which looking at it finished i should of done it the other way because it looks like there too much background (negative space) and it drowns out the look of the bridge, it doesnt pop out as much as it would have. To make our stencils we had to trace the image onto paper from a projecter, which didn't take long, then we had to cut it out with a tool called an xacto knife. To use this you basically just cut along the places you traced and pull it out, the cutting was actually really time consuming because what would happen was you would cut something and it would'nt be cut all the way through and i had to pull it out or cut it again. The spray painting was the easiest step by far and the least challenging. To spray paint it we just had to position our stencil on the collage and spray around it and all the details. The color choice I used was a white covered by black to give it the effect of fading, this can be make it pop out more and look much nicer if you do it correctly.

Final Sword Fish Print

I believe the overall composition of my print was good; it had a good balance between positive and negative space, but the sloppy print of it was caused by frustration and the fact that I couldn’t get the ink to roll onto the linoleum. I think this added to the texture though because it looks like there’s a flow of water from ink getting on the negative space and also the texture that was already there actually blended well. Texture is important because it can make a simple two dimensional drawing three dimensional. It also makes it look detailed instead of just two different colors looking sloppy together and not defining shapes it separates them making them blend well. I used positive and negative space by mixing the two together like the small details on the animal like the eyes and the tail. I also used it to make the two different colors on the animal itself which was hard because to make the bottom of the animal the background color and make it not blend with the background was hard because of the steady and thin outline I had to make. I believe I had good craftsmanship until the printing itself because it kept smearing and not having enough ink, but the actual picture itself was pretty good and had good detail and there was actually objects in the background like smaller sword fish and sea weed and the lines of the currents. I think I achieved a foreground, middle ground and background because the animal has depth like how the tail is in front of the rest of the fish and is a bit thicker. I also have a middle ground with the seaweed and the other fish and then the background is the currents and the bubbles. I think print making was an ok experience I mean personally I didn’t like it because of the time consuming tracing of the animal to get it on the linoleum and cutting it out, but the actual picture itself and it was a cool concept. The advantage to doing print making is you can make as many prints as you want without re-drawing it, but the disadvantage is that if you mess up on the linoleum you can’t erase it or put it back so it involves a lot of improvising.

Print Drawing Swordfish

Texture is very important in these sketches because it makes the animal pop out and look three dimensional when your only using black and white and not shading. If you dont have any texture then it just looks normal and two dimensional.
It is important to have a few different references and backgrounds because you can take different aspects of each photo and each animal that can make it look more original instead of just copying a photo onto paper. This also helps if you decide you dont like the picture you have you have a few others to compare too
When I look at my sketches I can tell that this one is by far the most real looking. I really didnt like how the others turned out like my aligator is hard to do because it has insanely tedious amounts of detail and texture because of the scales and the curves in the aligator itself. I know this one is the best because out of all my pictures you can pretty much know what it is right away.

Chalk Mural

I think this was a fun project to do with other people and it also kind of helped hearing other peoples ideas instead of getting drawrers block while sketching it. It worked out good with all the ideas we had our sketch looked really good with all the ideas we had.
If you cant collaborate than this project would be impossible because when you have four or five people working on one small area of a wall you have to be able to work what your doing in with what the other people are doing or you will mess up majorly.
I think this project could have gone better if we would've had more time and also the fact of being short on people for 3 days it didn't go as planned. I really think it could of turned out a lot better but atleast it didnt turn out bad and also what we did on paper was hard to do on brick because you have to work with the groute in the middle of the bricks which just made it look worse especially the loopty loop lollipops.
I think it was cool to make a picture that you interact with and I've seen a few people around school get into positions infront of the murals and it just makes you feel good someone appreciates your art. I also think its a big challenge because your making a two dimensional surface interact with a three dimensional object or person. This was also hard because for them to interact with it the item has to be hidden by boddy parts like if you tried a glove it wouldn't work because it has to be infront of the hand or around it.

Value Portrait

In the process of making this drawing I had to trace out all of the different values from a photo onto tracing paper. After I traced it I had to imprint my drawing from the tracing paper to my sketchbook. Then I had to shade in all the shapes and add all the value by looking at my 9step value chart and comparing them.

While I was doing this I had to find different values in the photo. I did this by comparing different values on the picture with the values on my value chart.

I used lots of different values because I had to to make the hair look realistic. I did this by applying pressure to my pencil or letting off pressure for light colors. I think the shading turned out well but some of the hair is a bit too dark.

I believe i made this neatly and there aren't any outlines on the picture just different shades that fade. I think I did the project correctly and made it look surprisingly well for the first black and white portrait I've done. I think it also looked really different from normal drawings of people.

I think the hardest thing about this picture was the hair because of the thousands of strands of hair and how much different shades there were. Another obstacle I had was the fact of blending all of the shapes together cleanly and making it look realistic and have the light reflecting just right and the shading around the eyes. I had lots of small problems durring this project but they were easy to overcome and I actually enjoyed doing this project and I think it turned out really good

Value Study

After I made this I thought it turned out well and actually looked really cool. I thought it was going to be hard but the oil pastels blended really easy. I think this practice turned out well but if this is practice i wonder what the real thing is going to look like. I think what worked well was my color choices but what didnt work was the fact i made it lighter way to early and that could have made it A LOT better. I think the most difficult part of this was getting the shades to look like they were actually there and that there was actually light shining on it because you can't blend the colors close you have to make it look like it fades. What I learned from this is that shading isnt that easy it actually takes time and effort to get it to look believable and that making an outline and coloring it in isnt always how it works you sometimes have to build up the shape and the color and that even if it doesnt look good at first you can always make it work.
